Mikel: We’ll beat Liberia silly

Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has said the
Super Eagles are fired up to reach next
year’s AFCON and as such will thrash
Liberia on Saturday at home.
“The (team) spirit is high and with our form
and determination we will beat Liberia silly,”
Mikel said.
“I am not looking down on them, but it’s a
game to determine our participation in the
Nations Cup and we are ready to grab it
with both hands.
“I am here for the game and I am ready to
do battle against Liberia. I am in good
shape and form now, I will do my best to
see that we beat Liberia.
“It is a battle we have to win, we know
what is at stake and we are not taking it
easy with them.”
For their last visit at full international level,
the Lone Star of Liberia complete with the
legendary George Weah lost 2-0 to the
Eagles in Port Harcourt in a 2002 World
Cup qualifier.
Mikel was held back in London over a visa
application to Ukraine for this month’s UEFA
Champions League clash against Shakhtar
He arrived the Eagles training camp in
Calabar on Wednesday and hours later
worked out with the rest of the squad
under the guidance of coach Stephen Keshi.
Mikel has yet to play for Nigeria since Keshi
took over the team in November.
He opted out of last month’s 2-2 draw with
Liberia in Monrovia after it was initially
believed that the game would be played on
an artificial pitch.
