Panic as Ijaw group impeaches President
The National Representative Council, (NRC) of the
Ijaw National Congress, (INC) has commenced an
effective search for the next President of the group
following the impeachment of the former
President, Barrister Boma Obuoforibo.
It will be recalled that Obuoforibo who had been
under investigation by a 7-man panel set up for
that effect was found guilty of “gross misconductâ€
and other offences committed by the former
President and was therefore recommended that
he be removed from office.
Subsequently, the NRC on November 10, 2015 in its
meeting headed by Professor Francis Sikoki in Port
Harcourt, Rivers state capital at the headquarters
of INC ratified the investigative Panel’s, 10-point
recommendation and subsequently impeached
Barrister Obuoforibo in line with Articles 25 (b) (iii)
and 25 (b) (v) of the 2009 INC constitution.
Giving insight into the program of Congress after
the impeachment, the national public relations
officer of INC, Pastor Victor Burubo said the search
for new President had begun and must be
concluded within the time frame of 60 days after
the impeachment of the former President,
According to the PRO, “the next President must
come from the Eastern zone of the Ijaw speaking
region. He must be somebody who has interest in
the INC struggle and must not be greedy for self-
gains. In other words, he must have self-integrity.â€
On the forthcoming governorship election in
Bayelsa state, the INC spokesman urged politicians
and the candidates in particular to prevail on their
supporters to conduct themselves peacefully
before, during and after the election.
“The candidates and their supporters must imbibe
the culture of tolerance and guide against any form
of violence that may lead to bloodshed of innocent
people in the state. As a Congress, we will not
condone any form of bloodshed on Ijaw land. That
is why it has become necessary for all concern to
remain peaceful,†Victor Burubo said.
NRC had since confirmed Engineer Ebieridei
Charles Ambaiowei as the Acting President of the
Ijaw national Congress, until the election of
substantive President within the next 60 days.
