Okorocha’s wife donates bungalow to widow

Mrs. Ohiaji beneficiary of the two-bedroom bungalow
THE wife of the Imo State governor, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha, has called on the citizens of the state to support her initiative of providing shelter for indigent widows in the state.

She made the call while handing over a two-bedroom bungalow to a widow, Mrs. Caroline Ohiaji. The house was built via her pet project, She needs a roof programme, also known as SNARP
Okorocha spoke through her representative, the Chairman of Imo State Universal Basic Education, Mrs. Getrude Oduka, at Okpofe in Ezinihitte Mbaise.

The beneficiary of the building, Mrs. Ohiaji, a mother of six, is a widow from Umuanyanwu, Umuimee Okpofe, and second wife of late Mr. Romans Ohiaji, who married Caroline after the death of his first wife years back.

Okorocha said, “Out of the six children, one died. Out of the remaining three sons, two are dumb, compounding her miserable existence. She was living in a dilapidated mud house with doors and windows fallen apart.

This made her scale through the SNARP criteria.”
The governor’s wife, while handing over the keys to Ohiaji, said that with the joint effort of well-meaning individuals, the state would be rid of shanties. She urged all to support her efforts at alleviating poverty.

She said, “Mrs. Ohiaji, who has nobody to cater for her and the children is to get shelter, clothing, empowerment to start a business through SNARP, which is daily transforming the lives of the less privileged persons.”

She urged women in the state not to see their current condition as the end of the road, pointing out that with trust in God, they would rise to enviable height someday.

While the All Progressives Congress Chairman in Ezinihitte Local Government Area, Stanley Onwuekwe, described Nneoma Okorocha’s project as the first since the creation of the state, the state Chairman of the APC, Dr. Hilary Eke, said SNARP was beyond politics, and added that the effort of the governor’s wife had remained a legacy that could not be wiped out, even as he pledged his support for the project.
Unveiling the plague to commemorate the handing over of the bungalow, the Chief Economic Adviser to the governor, Mr. Iyke Njoku, assured the beneficiary of the support of his office towards ensuring that she started a business that would sustain her family.

Thanking God for answering her prayers, the beneficiary, Mrs. Ohiaji, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Okorocha for lifting her from abject poverty.
