TSA: FG beams searchlight on security agencies

Security agencies are to receive special attention in the implementation of Treasury Single Account, the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, has said.

A statement by Deputy Director in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. K.N. Offie, said the AGF said this when the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, visited him in Abuja on Friday.

Idris explained that this was necessary because the security of lives and property was one of cardinal agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He added that the implementation of TSA would be carried out in a manner that would not disrupt the execution of the essential mandates of the security agencies.

The AGF stated that his office was aware of the enormous responsibility facing the security agencies in contending with armed robbery, insurgency, kidnapping and other vices.

He said the government would ensure that the release of monies required for the execution of all special operations aimed at overcoming these evils was not in any way affected by the implementation of the TSA.

According to Idris, the TSA is not meant to hamper the activities of MDAs but to entrench a more transparent, efficient and robust management of public funds that would ensure the speedy realisation of government plans and programmes.

The AGF commended the police for complying with the directive on the TSA, urged the organisation to embrace more scientific and electronic means for transacting their business.

He explained that the era of carrying money in Ghana-Must–Go bags to payment points was gone, adding that the TSA would complement the already existing electronic platforms.

Arase commended the Office of the Accountant-General for its support to the MDAs, particularly the Nigerian Police, in the implementation of the TSA.
