Gov primary: Bayelsa APC delegates allege threats to lives

As the Bayelsa State governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress draws near, there is strong indication that some delegates expected to cast their votes during the internal election have gone into hiding.

It was learnt on Sunday that the development was informed by alleged threats and desperate scramble for votes by aspirants within the party.

It was further learnt that the delegates, made up of state, local and ward executives of the party, had allegedly gone into hiding to avoid threats from loyalists to the former Governor Timipre Sylva.

While some of the delegates claimed that the threat from the Sylva’s camp were allegedly being issued by known state party executives, others claimed other aspirants had made cash promises and better lodging before and after the primary election.

It was gathered that Sylva’s loyalists, who were bent on ensuring that their candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, wins the ticket, had allegedly warned the delegates not to fraternise or vote for new comers into the party.

A group, Bayelsa Victory Frontiers, commenting on the matter, alleged that the threat against the APC delegates had become worrisome.

In a statement by its spokesman, Ayibanoh Gibson, he said, “We have it on good authority that the Sylva’s bloc within the APC has resorted to threats and blackmail to cow the delegates. They have been warned of dangerous consequences if they voted for new comers.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that some members of the SEC of the party have endorsed the candidature of Slyva and Mr. Preye Aganaba as his running mate.
