Turkey stops potential terrorists from entering Syria –Envoy

The Turkish ambassador to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil, has denied a report that his country is facilitating movement of terrorists to Syria.

Rather, the envoy said that Turkey has been waging serious war against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria terrorists, stressing that his country has continued to cooperate with the international community against ISIS.

Cakil, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said Turkey had deported no fewer than 800 suspected terrorists since the beginning of the year, adding that 1900 others were deported since 2011.

“We have about 18,000 people from 100 countries in our no entry list,” the ambassador said.

The envoy stated that all Turkish embassies, including the one in Abuja, carefully verified all visa applications from Nigerians, insisting that no Turkish diplomatic mission has deliberately issued visas to anyone who intended to join ISIS.

According to him, Ibrahim Uwais, the son of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria who was said to have travelled to Syria, was given Turkish tourist visa twice because he had “strong credentials,” noting that the embassy had recorded no similar case since then.
