Ikpeazu bans roadside car wash

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has banned the
washing of cars on tarred roads, saying the detergents used
by the car washers have damaging effect on the coal tars.

Ikpeazu, who announced the ban yesterday while inspecting
road projects in Aba and Umuahia, said his administration
would roll out new policies on the maintenance of public
facilities in the state.

The Governor who expressed sadness over the activities of
car washers on the roads called on residents to imbibe a
maintenance culture that would help safeguard public
facilities in the state.

work on the roads, gave 50 days ultimatum to the
contractors to get them delivered.

The Governor, who has so far awarded 21 road projects in
different parts of the state with Aba getting a lion’s share of
seven roads, said at least 80 percent of the job would be
completed before his first 100 days in office.

He disclosed that all the roads under construction would
have street lights and markings, explaining that having light
on the roads has an economic importance as it will help
traders on night trading.

Aba road was to ensure their durability.

were Udeagbala Road, Omni,Umuojima, Kamalu, Old
express and Ukaegbu Roads, all in Aba, as well as Agbama,
