NPS promotes 102 officers in Yobe

The Nigerian Prisons Service, Yobe Command, on Monday in Damaturu, decorated 102 officers promoted recently.

Controller of Prisons in the state, Mr. Inuwa Abdullahi, said at the ceremony that some of them had stagnated for between 10 and 19 years.

He urged them to rededicate themselves to duty to justify their elevation.

Abdullahi said the call was necessary to ensure that the command lived up to its responsibility considering the lingering security challenges facing the state.

He warned the officers against utterances or any acts capable of compromising their operation.

“If you want to be relevant in the service, you must be honest, diligent, dedicated and committed to be able to succeed in this government,” Abdullahi said.

On the delay in the promotion of some of the officers, he said, “it is unfortunate that promotion that was supposed to come after every two years was delayed for 10 to 19 years.”

He called on the officers and the Muslims in the country to use the month of Ramadan to pray to God to bring an end to the persistent insecurity in the North-East.

One of the newly promoted officers, who had been an Inspector of Prisons since 1996, Mrs. Laraba Sule, commended the service for the promotion.

Sule attributed the delay in her promotion to lack of educational qualification and encouraged new officers in the service to develop themselves academically to avoid stagnation.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Inspector of Prisons, Mr. Ahmed Shu’aibu, expressed their readiness to move the Nigerian Prisons Service to an enviable height.
