Nigerian troops have stormed the Sambisa Forest, a wide expanse of arid land North-east of Nigeria and rescued about 300 women and girls.

Chris Olukolade said he could not confirm the identity of the freed victims and their origin, neither could he state if any of them was from Chibok, Borno State, until after a thorough screening and proper investigations have been done.
He said: “I can only confirm the rescued this afternoon of 200 girls and 93 women in different camps in the forest. We are yet to determine their origin as all the freed persons are now being screened and profiled. Please don’t misquote me on their origin. We will provide more details later.”
Last April, over 200 girls from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, were abducted by men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in an operation which drew criticism from Nigerians and several notable members of the international community.
