University of Abuja Stinks – Goodluck Jonathan

University of Abuja Stinks – Goodluck
President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday,
decried the level of rot in
University of
Abuja and ordered the Minister of
Education, Professor Ruqqayat Rufai, to
commence screening of students in order
to flush out those who gained admission
into the institution without basic
According to the president, “reports before
me showed that the majority of the
students at the university were without
basic entry requirements”.
Jonathan said this while swearing-in the
new minister representing Sokoto State,
Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, along with the
chairman and five other members of the
Federal Civil Service Commission at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He also expressed worry over the absence
of merit in securing employment into the
civil service and said that the menace has
crept into the education system.
He said, “Only yesterday, we had a meeting
with Minister of Education, we are looking
into the situation at the University of Abuja
because of their crisis.
“The Executive Secretary of the National
Universities Commission (NUC) revealed that
one thing about the University of Abuja
case is that there are students there who
do not even have the basic qualification but
they are there as undergraduates.
“I said that those must be political students.
They must be students that we politicians
pushed in. I told the Minister that they must
set up a committee to send the political
students back to us. We cannot allow the
universities to be taken over by political
students who are the kind of students that
create confusion, create all kinds of cults”.
The President charged the new Chairman
and members of the Civil Service
Commission to collaborate with the Head of
Civil Service of the Federation, to bring back
the lost glory of the nation’s civil service.
